“I want to complete my education first,” Priyanka told the officials. “I have dreams that I need to fulfill before thinking about marriage.”

Priyanka’s extraordinary courage did not go unnoticed. On August 14th, she was honored with a cash prize of 5000 rupees and a certificate by the Sabhapati and the Member of Parliament (MP). Additionally, she was awarded a monthly stipend of 4000 rupees to support her education until she turns 18. Her bravery also earned her a special award at the Kolkata Birangana State Government office, where she was celebrated as a role model for other young girls facing similar challenges. Following the intervention, Priyanka’s parents were counseled about the legal implications of child marriage and the importance of education for their daughter’s future. They have since become supportive of her educational pursuits, marking a significant shift in their perspectives.
